"An Unforgettable Adventure Through Sri Lanka’s Wonders"
It would be impossible to over-enthuse about our recent trip to Sri Lanka. As keen photographers we were continually impressed by the breathtaking richness of colour and texture that provided the background for our pictures.
It may sound like a cliché but it’s true: Sri Lanka is an island of contrasts. How wonderful to move from the beautiful beaches and their magical sunsets to the jungle-clad mountains; to experience peaceful Buddhist temples amidst riotously busy city streets, the timelessly traditional alongside the frantically modern.
We can’t forget the animal life. Yes, we have photos of monkeys and monitor lizards, but our favourite moments involved snorkelling with the turtles and rubbing shoulders with the elephants. These huge animals graciously shared their roads with us and, on our fabulous eco-safari, sauntered around within touching distance.
Our accommodation was first-class; we were pleased to find four- and five-star hotels within our budget. We were grateful to our travel company for their unfailing assistance with this and with on-land travel arrangements. They really went out of their way!
Nothing says colour and texture more than Sri Lankan food! We especially remember the seafood, and particularly our meal at the famous Ministry of Crab. And a special mention for the ‘hoppers’, those perfect rice flour bowls for our breakfast eggs.
And, of course, the people. Their friendliness is legendary, and rightly so, and when it comes to hospitality, their professionalism is without peer. The Sri Lankans are very proud of their country and keen to show you around it. No wonder!
