Minneriya National Park

Located in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, Minneriya National Park is renowned for “The Gathering,” an annual event during the dry season when hundreds of elephants congregate around the Minneriya Reservoir. This spectacle is considered one of the largest wild Asian elephant gatherings globally.

Beyond elephants, the park’s diverse habitats support a variety of wildlife, including sambar deer, leopards and numerous bird species. The reservoir and surrounding wetlands also attract a plethora of waterbirds, making Minneriya a prime spot for wildlife observation.
