Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary

The Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary is a protected wetland located between Chilaw and Puttalam in Sri Lanka’s North Western Province. Recognized as one of the six RAMSAR wetlands in the country, it encompasses a unique ecosystem that includes coastal mangroves, freshwater lakes and swamps.

The sanctuary is a haven for bird enthusiasts, hosting a diverse array of avian species, both resident and migratory. Visitors can observe species such as herons, cormorants, egrets and kingfishers in their natural habitats. The tranquil environment, coupled with the rich biodiversity, makes Anawilundawa an ideal spot for nature walks, bird watching and photography.
